Tacky, tacky! If she didn’t have a book coming out by the same name, I’d vote “noble effort,
poorly named.” But with the book . . .

I still don’t understand the “we have no money so we can’t get married” excuse. A few dollars for a license, a few for the Justice of the Peace - bam, you are now man and wife. A $20,000 wedding does not a marriage make.

This was definitely a publicity stunt, but it ends with a nice gesture so everyone can feel all warm and cozy inside. I just hope that they understand that marriage is about more than the cake and flowers. The hard part is not in getting married, but in staying married…

I wonder if she got someone to sponsor some free counseling too. There is a reason why it took these people so long to get hitched.

I know the author and I say if it was about uplifting the couples and community then just skip the book and focus on the event. But the book by the same title proves, its about publicity. Let’s call it what it really is. Promotion to jumpstart sales. Marriage is a piece of paper, I hope the couples get counseling because not being able to afford the wedding may not have been the only thing keeping these baby’s momas and daddys from tying the knot.

My vote? Shameless publicity-mongering … and, as berry hints above, also probably an attempt to fill an empty pew two.

By the way, somehow I missed the whole the whole “Marry Your Baby Daddy” blitz. (When you miss Essence, you miss you, huh?)

At any rate, I’m not a fan of marriage and I don’t believe that it “fixes” anyone’s relationship.

Whatever it is, I feel vaguely dirty about the whole thing. Why is that marriage is such a big deal (says the old married biddy)?

Hmmmm, interesting. I used to attend that church briefly. Seems odd that Rev. would go along with this but perhaps he is trying to boost the membership rosters. After checking out the links I see that the originator of this idea has a book surprisingly of the same title. Two words, publicity stunt! That’s the kind of mess you come up with after a night of drinking with the girls but yu should NEVER go through with. Good googly moogly!

Oh is it today??? I knew that was coming, but didn’t know the actual date. But I’m recruiting for a baby daddy, so maybe I should head down there before they all say I do. LOL
