Friday morning bitchical miscellany.

1. It’s not even 8 am and I have been awake for over 1.5 hours already. Ew. Too early for critical thinking. Which leads to the rather shaky observation that…

2. In the video for “Wait a Minute,” Nicole Scherzinger, the apparent lead Pussycat Doll sings, “Why you be buggin’ like I’m some kinda ho?” just after the pole dance, and before writhing on the car hood. Pussycat. Dolls. Now, I’m not saying pole dancing and shaking your ass on the hood of a car necessarily make you a ho, but I’m pretty sure they are very, very strong indicators.

(What ever happened to acting like a lady, goddamn it? At risk of sounding, dare I say, old fashioned, how can you expect to be treated like one if you emulate a stripper in dress and mannerism?)

3. Flavor of Love and Rap School make me hate the VH1 execs more than I thought possible. But the fact they are playing “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” right now, and had hours of the top 100 ’80s videos last night, keeps me coming back. Fuckers.

4.Crazy “Other” Juliet, Lost Island, Middle of Nowhere: Lay off the fucking Botox.

5. Meatloaf…remakes…Celine Dion. Unholy.

6. Dear Washington Mutual: I have had to change my own username and password twice in the last two weeks because your password requirements are so goddamn restrictive that I can’t come up with one that I will actually remember later without writing it down somewhere I might lose it…which kinda defeats the purpose, doesn’t it? Bitches.

7. *Blink, blink* Square “bagels”, cheese crumbles, self-heating coffee (that still costs over $2 a pop, so why not just stop at a coffeeshop?). Discuss.

8. OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG! BORAT! And Volver! Penelope Cruz…plus 7 lbs.!

Ummm . . . I myself take great interest in pole dancing, writhing around and shaking my ass in general and it is in no way an invitation to touch me or penetrate my pussycat, so to speak. Granted, if you’re going to look and act like a tart, don’t be surprised if you get tart-like reactions from people. Energy sent, energy returned and all that . . . but this could quickly decline into one of those discussions about when women dress “sexy” they’re inviting rape. And we don’t want to go there, now do we?

So TOTALLY feeling you on the power that VH1 has to draw us in - against our own wills! I have watched various parts of that 80’s countdown all week - love it! There is probably nothing that I can say about Flava-Flav and that show that hasn’t already been said. So I won’t even try. Have a great weekend!

I’m with Divine on this one. But I think what bugs me (and I’ve ranted about this before) is how it seems like a woman can’t be more than one thing — either you’re the stripper or you’re the prim schoolmarm. Right now it’s the overly sexualized thing, which bugs me because of the overall impression that people get.

Now, it seems that for women to feel cool, you have to pole dance, walk around in three inch heels and be an overly-sexualized fantasy. I know that’s not true, but I wonder about younger women and teenage girls.

Jesus. We’re all making the same point. Nobody said anything about rape. (So the answer would be, *childlike, hands folded, head bowed meekly* “No, ma’am, we don’t want to go there.” *head pat* “There’s a good blogger. Run along now!”) Should you be allowed to shake your ass anywhere you want without fear of assault? Absolutely. Should you be surprised, after shaking it, if someone expresses sexual interest? No. All I’m trying to say.

Now that I’ve seen the full song lyrics, which read like a pseudo-feminist screed for the lucite-heeled illiterati, I don’t know why I’m even bothering to argue about it. Ugh.

I guess if a woman wants to dress in attire which would be labled as “hooker-ish”, “whore-ish”, or “hoochie-ish” by society then that’s her right as a grown ba-hind person. But she must be able to take all the leering, assumptions, come ons and negative comments made at her and to her.
