Honey is coming back.

So far, it’s just a website, but apparently, someone is trying to get it up and running again. Based on the digital representation, I’m sceptical it will be anything approaching its former glory, and it ain’t no Vixen competition, for sure. Things at Honey still look a bit…unfinished, and that’s just in web format, so it’s got a long way to go before it’s print-ready.

Still, it’s nice to see someone is trying to get it going. Vixen is still quarterly, going to bimonthly this year, I think, and no one has seen fit over at Time to resurrect Suede. They can fund a magazine called The Progressive Farmer, but fashion for brown girls is too much to ask. Pft.

Ooh, so much to say about this topic and so little time to say it …

It’s kind of like Mark Zupan’s quest to get Quad Rugby on ESPN. His quote is something like, “They got fucking darts on ESPN, but they won’t show Quad Rugby???”

Accordingly, “They got fucking midwestern cattle herders in magazines, but they won’t have a fashion magazine for brown girls???” :)

“sceptical”? Lord, you’re in Britain in your mind already. . . .

K: Me too. Wonder if the old ed will come back? It had a good fashion focus, if I recall.

M: I love the Brits for so many reasons, not least of which is the fact that, 9 times out of 10, I can claim my spelling err–urm, deviations–are due to my affinity for them. Heh.

I had a subscription to Honey from issue 3 until it folded. I was sad to see it deteriorate and sadder to see it go completely. I’m glad it’s on it’s way back in some form or another. I liked Suede, but had a hard time finding it on newstands. I LOVE Vixen but it doesn’t come out often enough nor is it thick enough. I don’t want a fashion mag full of ads but I get to the end of Vixen and find myself going ‘That’s it?’ - Like I just finished a small ice cream when I could have sworn I bought a medium. One of these days someone will see that there is a market for a ‘fashion mag for brown girls’ and do one the RIGHT way. Until then Ill just flip through my copies of Vixen……very slowly.

Oh my God. For a minute there I thought you meant the Jessica Alba movie.

when is Siddity coming out? Now THERE would be a fabulous magazine. Funny, we had that publishing convo not too long ago and I’ve discovered that some of our favs have returned to the rack. Have you check out Savoy and Savoy Professional? Body & Soul (though not as fabulous as it used to be) and others are trying to come back to life.

oooh, you should publish your own magazine.

FBC: Ha! That’s exactly it. And I’ve seen the damn darts. Unbelievable.

B Chi: Funny you should mention that. It had been on my mind, but as more of a website than as a mag. I wouldn’t call it siddity though. And I will be tapping y’all for contributions if/when I pull it together! B, Sometime after I return from my break (likely at the end of Feb), we should talk. I need your wisdom!
