I’m interrupting regularly scheduled programming to offer a quickie cosmetics tip:
You know all those raves “mainstream” beauty mags gave Nars Orgasm blush, but none but the lightest negress could wear? Bitter like me, because that isht just sat on your apples looking like an ’80s Seventeen cover throwback, bright as hell?
Nars Madly blush. Absolutely perfect blush for medium/olive skinned girls. I’ve tried it both with my winter skin (which takes MAC Studio Mist medium dark foundation nicely) and with my post-Florida gold skin and it is The Business. Slightly bronze, slightly pink, gorgeously natural-looking flush. Loves it, I do.
The jury is still out on the perfect neutral flush for darker skins. Suggestions are welcome. You know, in case I decide to give up this whole writing/traveling/cooking thing for makeup artistry.

Can you believe they don’t sell MAC nor NARS in this rinky dink town? I can’t wait to move back to Atlanta.
nice to see you posting! may i recommend tarte cheek stain? i use “tickled” most of the time, except in the dead of winter when i’m old yeller pale - then i use “flush”…. i think it looks really natural and healthy.
“…none but the lightest negress could wear” HA! You kill me!
I had the same problem with Orgasm; everytime I wear it, my son says, “Are you *trying* to look like a doll?”
I just bought Nars Outlaw. It always looks good in my [windowless] bathroom, but once I go outside, it’s very “hey mistah!”
Jazz: OMG, wherewhatnow? What do you do to make pretty? Pinch your cheeks and burn twigs to make kohl? GET BACK TO A CITY!
Girlhattan: Good tips! Jah, I usually very much like the stains, but I only use them without foundation. I had to do passport photos recently and did a full face, then foun i had no blush that i didn’t think would displace the base. Meh. I am an amateur weenie when it comes to the serious facepainting.
Cat: Haha, I get that same effect if I wear a certain stain during the winter–total doll face effect.
Although, I would very much like to work “Hey mistah!” into my next conversation!
Sid! Madly is the bomb!!
Now, what about a good nude lipstick??
