Misogyny and Mass Murder

Just visited the internet mindspace of three charming geniuses–Miss M, Kiki and the Bear (er, Mike)–and found myself here. I’ve been lax in paying attention to this story–it broke while I was on that Florida trip and then I took a head-in-sand approach to life for a few days.

The MoJo article reminds me of why the mag was required reading for me years ago, and to a lesser extent why I’m struggling with my faith in media now. Why isn’t the mainstream asking the questions that matter?

Mainstream spends too much time busying itself with fighting to the front of the pack and concerning itself with the bottom line. Heads up own asses. Managements don’t cough up the budgets or time to pursue the hard-earned answers to the unpopular questions that matter. Plus it feels better to ask, “What makes a guy do that?” rather than “How did our institutions fail us?” and “Why didn’t we stop it?” and “How are we all complicit?”

    See? No fun.

    Feck.

And isn’t this why we blog?
