I resent most small space living advice. It seems much of the time, that advice is geared toward spaces, oh, under 2000 square feet, often in the 1000-1500 sf range. I have 380 square feet to make my own. No room for lofting, and stucco walls unsuitable for painting to demarcate space. Where’s the advice for that, huh?
Dilemma number two is far more interesting: I’m designing some invites for a March Madness party. The idea: superimpose the hosts faces over the faces of their favorite players. The problem: all the hosts are white, all the players are black. Offensive or hilarious? Knowing the hosts, I have no doubt it isn’t intended as mockery, but knowing this country, I can also see the invites making their way around the intertubes for that purpose.

Keep in mind, I’m not the potential offended (and given the fact that China once had an air-conditioning commerical featuring Hitler — don’t ask. I couldn’t read the ad), take what I say with a large grain of salt.
I’d find it hi-larious, depending on how you do it. Now if you just superimpose white faces on a black body like a really bad photoshop job, I’d find it hi-larious. What might not be so funny is if you do the whole “Soul Man” thing of shading, etc. to make them look black.
Yeah, I found it hilarious, too. In fact, it was the host who brought up the matter of possible offense. But I’m missing part of my handbook so…I don’t trust myself.
I don’t find it offensive but who knows what whiny little PC loving babies would think.
Too harsh?
I want your apartment! now!
I don’t find it offensive, but I watch Reno 911 every night, so laughing at racially offensive humor is now part of my daily routine.
That sounds too funny! The players will be in white face
But then again Diddy is now a full blown racist for having only black models in his Sean John show. So I guess you’ll be damned to hell by some people if you send these.
hello my dear..delurking to say that i’ve missed u!
for your adorably small space, check out dwell magazine. they champion the green, oft-times small spaces in nyc, sf, etc.
good luck!
sorry, i’ve less direction to give for your other question. personally, i think since you are already aware of the possible outcome, and the fact that it has very likely been done by others, you stand to gain precious few points for originality. that said, how about the hosts’ faces superimposed on folks wearing straitjackets…?
